From Behind the Lens to the Front | NJ Wedding Photographer | NJ Wedding Planning
Hi All!!!!
I am starting a new series on the blog today, 6 days after my own wedding, about going from wedding photographer to wedding planner. This series is going to be about how I went from wedding photographer to wedding planner, planning my own wedding.
I have to say that I felt a lot of pressure to live up to my own expectations of what an truly amazingly-beautiful, blog-worthy wedding would look like. Pinterest & Etsy along with many of my favorite blogs are to blame for many late nights up pinning my favorite images in bed while my fiance was ignored and emptying my bank account each pay period when the next wonderful must-have object-of-my-eye was posted for sale.
My perfect idea of our wedding was a romantic, whimsical, bright, modern take on a fall rustic barn setting. As soon as those first puzzle pieces came together, which I will speak about later, I knew Kay English had to be our wedding photographer. Her images remind me of dreamy escapes to my favorite stores Anthropology, BHDN, & Free People. Her style just captures my absolute favorite things, just like the Julie Andrews song, “These are a few of my favorite things”!…. I really wanted to spin on the wedding day and sing that, but I didn’t because that is weird.
At this point, I think I have a ton of great advice that I can give to present and future brides that are ready to take the leap. I really did think I knew so much about the wedding industry until it was my turn to walk down the aisle and suddenly, I did not know as much as I thought. I can count a wedding timeline backwards in my head and tell each client exactly how much time we will need for a specific shot, but then my day came and I have to say that I don’t remember much of it. Everyone kept telling me to embrace it and just take it in. Take the time to stand around and just watch what is going on around you. Honestly, I tried to do that and the emotions and time just got the better of me. I thought a wedding day went by fast when I was behind the camera, but no, it goes way faster when your in front of the camera.
Over the course of the next few weeks, I will be discussing my journey from engagement to the aisle. Stay tuned…..xo
